NATO NOMINATED FOR NOBEL PRIZE

In recognition of its peacekeeping role in Europe during the cold war, NATO has been nominated for 1995Nobel Peace Prize. Organizations such as Amnesty International and the International Red Cross have won the award before, but if NATO wins, it will mark the first time in the 94-year history of the prize that an alliance of nations has been singled out. Overall, 85 individuals and 35 organizations have been nominated for this year's prize, includingformer President Jimmy Carter.
