U.S. SAYS IRAN ARMING BOSNIA

The U.S. believes Iran is sending weapons to Bosnia's Muslim-led government in violation of a U.N. embargo on shipping arms to thecivil war-ravaged Balkans. But the Clinton Administration would not confirm today's Washington Post report that says Iran has delivered "hundreds of tons" of weapons to Bosnian forces. And the Administration disputed the Post's assertion that the U.S. has tacitly approved of the shipments.TIME Defense correspondent Mark ThompsonsaysWashingtonis well aware that a large number of small arms have been pouring into Bosnia, some in U.S.-built military cargo planes. He says it's easy for the U.S. to ignore the shipments because Clinton does not want to get involved in the war.
