Israel is proposing a three-way trade with the United States and Russia that would free former U. S. Navy analyst and convicted spy for Israel Jonathan Pollard. Under the deal, Israel would send Marcus Klingberg, who is serving an 18-year sentence for spying for the former Soviet Union, to Russia. The Russians would send American agents to be named later to the United States, and the U. S. would free Pollard. Both the United States and Russian embassies declined to comment, while Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin said he knows of no such deal. The U. S. Justice Department has opposed Pollard's release. Pollard, who has been in prison since 1987, has a parole hearing scheduled for next November.
