What child would not rather eat an apple than have a shot? In a report published today by the National Academy of Sciences, researchers say they have already grown genetically-engineered potato plants with a protein gene that creates immunity to hepatitis B , and that it may be possible to manipulate apples, oranges, tomatoes and other fruits and vegetables to immunize against other diseases. Bananas are next on the testing block. But don't give up your doctor yet: testing on humans is at least a decade away.
