President Clinton says that House Speaker Newt Gingrich should have stuck to his guns on a plan to give each poor child in the nation a laptop computer. "I don't think that's a bad idea at all," Clinton told a group of 50 college reporters in Washington today. Gingrich set the idea aside in the face of objections that the program would be too costly. Said the president: "I think that if we had enough resources to teach every poor child in this country how to interact with the whole world of information that's available -- if you could work that, it would be a very good thing."
