BMW Auctioning First New SUV on eBay

What did online journalists write about before eBay? In the last year TIME Digital alone has covered sky-high scalping of "Phantom Menace" movie tickets, a stolen Webby award, Hollywood Stock Exchange accounts and, just this week, supermodel ova. But the latest stupid auction trick is not coming from some smart-aleck Internet individualist — now German carmaker BMW is getting into the act.

Today BMW is helping launch its highly anticipated entry into the sport utility vehicle market with a 10-day eBay auction for the first X5 available in the U.S. The winning bidder will take delivery of a silver X5 on December 1, about two weeks before it is available in dealer showrooms. MORE >>
