NetAid Concert Launches Charity Portal

Pop stars are back to save the world — only this time they're powered by Cisco Systems. On Saturday, three simultaneous concerts, in New Jersey, London and Geneva, will kick off an effort by the high-tech industry to show that it really, really cares.

Performers include everyone from Jewel, George Michael and Celine Dion to David Bowie, Puff Daddy and Sheryl Crow. The concerts will be broadcast on MTV, VH1 and the BBC. Naturally, they will also flood across the Net, through an impressive 125,000 streams. The online distribution should set a new record for online audience, topping a Victoria's Secret lingerie show last February; at the very least it will stress test the best infrastructure that Akamai and RealNetworks can muster.
