GOP . . . END WELFARE AS WE KNOW IT
Capitol Hill Republicans unveiled plans to repeal the guarantee of welfare for every eligible American and to deny cash assistance tounwed teen mothers. Rep. Clay Shaw (R-Fla.) says the proposal will clear its first House subcommittee next week. Vermont Gov. Howard Dean, chairman of the National Governors' Association, wants the reforms to include a "guarantee that hungry children get fed."
