TheO.J. Simpson trialwas thrown into chaos today because of the illness of one prosecutor and a bitter back-and-forth between attorneys on both sides regarding an eleventh-hour witness list submitted by the defense. Deputy District Attorney Christopher Darden denounced the list as a roster of "heroin addicts, thieves, felons and . . . a court-certified pathological liar." Prosecutor William Hodgman was hospitalized last evening, complaining of chest pains; he is still in the hospital. Judge Lance Ito noted that Hodgman appeared extremely disturbed as defense attorneys announced the new witnesses yesterday. "I've known him as a colleague and a trial lawyer and I've never seen the expression on his face," said Ito.
