EXPERIMENTAL FIGHTER CRASHES

A NASA X-31 fighter jet went down late Thursday in the desert near Edwards Air Force Base in California, after the pilot safely ejected. The experimental craft, which may be modified to become the first supersonic stealth fighter, completed two earlier flights yesterday without problems.
