Scientists have documented the well-known fact that love is a powerful medicine. Researchers from the Yale University School of Medicine reported today that emotional support from family and friends after a patient suffers a heart attack improves the odds of survival. Researchers found that the levels of certain brain chemicals, which are believed to affect blood pressure and stress, change when a person is surrounded by loved ones: blood pressure lowers, and the heart relaxes.
