More than 300 perfectly-preserved prehistoric wall paintings have been discovered in a cave in southern France, French officials said today. The quality of the early art, estimated to be 20,000 years old, is being compared to the famous caves in Altamira, Spain and Lascaux, France. The paintings include portraits of bison, reindeer and a now-extinct species of rhinoceros. Other artifacts, such as hand imprints from Stone Age man, have been found at the site, which is believed to have been untouched for more than 15,000 years.
