In Grozny, fighting continued as fiercely as ever, with Chechen troops recapturing Grozny's train station and nearly wiping out recent Russian gains. A ceasefire that was supposed to take hold Wednesday at midnight seemed destined to be ignored. Russian President Boris Yeltsin ruled out talks with Chechen leader Dzhokhar Dudayev, and Chechen leaders said they would never lay down their arms.
