The Supreme Court today refused to reduce a $7.34 million award granted to a California woman who sued Dow Corning Corp over health problems related to silicone breast implants. The woman claimed that she contracted a painful disease after her silicone breast implants ruptured. Dow Corning had contended that the damages awarded by a lower court were excessive. The lawsuit helped spur other legal complaints brought by women who claimed to be injured by breast implants made by the firm.
