As dogs and helicopters searched the muddy sugar-cane fields near Belle Glade, Florida, dozens of police officers hunted for five convicted killers who tunnelled their way out of prison last night. One of the original six fugitives was captured quickly after the breakout, and told police that the six men, who are all Cuban, had planned to go their separate ways after their flight. The prisoners used spoons to dig a 60-ft. tunnel, 8 ft. under the ground, from the prison chapel to the other side of the surrounding wall over a three-week period.
