When Francisco Duran sprayed the White House with bullets on October 29 he may have been taking aim at a gray-haired, red-faced man on the grounds who, from a distance resembles President Clinton, law enforcement officials told the Associated Press today. The presence of Dennis Basso, 40 -- a fund-raiser for Hugh Rodham's ill-fated Florida Senate campaign -- is one of the reasons prosecutors are charging Duran with assassination, the official said, instead of treating the incident as the work of a madman. Duran's lawyer has maintained that "the 27 rounds were fired toward a building, not a person."Post your opinion on theCrimebulletin board.
