Expect the mean season to begin early next year as a sharply divided Congress gets down to business. One consequence of yesterday's landmark election yesterday was the sharp rightward swing of the bulk of Congress. But remaining Democrats are generally liberal, points out TIME Congressional correspondent Karen Tumulty. "There's hardly anybody left in the center and neither side has an overwhelming majority," says Tumulty.
