With three national polls showing a distinctRepublican edge in Tuesday's elections, President Clinton hit the road one more time -- racing through Minnesota, Michigan and Delaware -- in an effort to blow a last minute gust into the Democratic party's sagging sails. In an early morning rally in Minneapolis, he exhorted: "Why would we want to give the Congress to people who want to take us back to what almost wrecked us in the 1980s? Say no to them! Say yes to our people!" But the news was grim as polls gauging voter congressional preferences released today all give the GOP a comfortable margin over the Dems: A CNN/USA Today poll has the numbers at 51-44; A Times Mirror survey pegs it at 48-43; and an NBC/Wall Street Journal poll gives the GOP a staggering 46-35 lead. The numbers had pundits predicting a sure GOP takeover of the Senate with a similar fate in the House a distinct possibility. In an acknowledgment that he might have to work with a unfriendly Congress next session, Clinton in the midst of campaigning said that his job description included working "with anybody the people elected."Post your opinion on theElection '94bulletin board.
