The government says that as of 1991 young black women have practically given upsmoking, while young white women are puffing away in numbers significant enough to end a steady 25-year decline in the overall number of female smokers. According to the annual data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, only one in three women smoked, and the number's dropped every year till 1991. Some figures: while about 27 percent of young white women smoked from 1987 to 1992, the rate for young black women plunged from 21.8 percent in 1987 to 5.9 percent in 1992. The CDC has no explanations, except speculation that more white women smoke for weight control.Post your opinion on theHealth & Medecinebulletin board.
