CLINTON'S PEACE TRAIN

Clinton -- scheduled to visit Egypt Tuesday, then attend the Israel-Jordan treaty signing Wednesday -- tried to lower expectations today for the real linchpin of his visit: a meeting with Syrian President Hafez Assad that is designed to work toward peace with Israel. "I don't expect a dramatic breakthrough," Clinton said in a radio interview. BTW: Clinton will be the first American Chief Executive to visit Syria, which remains on the U.S. list of terrorism sponsors.
