A Disabled Genius Finds Her Voice on the Web
Last night in Sydney, Australia, Childnet International held
its second annual awards ceremony honoring "children (and
those working with them) who are developing innovative
communications projects using the Internet." Hero Joy
Nightingale -- who received an award in the Individual
category for her webzine, From the Window -- had to skip
the ceremony for a trip to the hospital. This is nothing
unusual for Nightingale. She has suffered all her life from
what she herself describes as "a kind of locked-in condition
characterised by a profound apraxia of all muscles, choreic
movements and hypotonia, an unknown
neurodevelopmental disorder of unknown aetiology." Did we
