AN ALTERNATIVE TO THE ABORTION PILL

Fervent pro-choice docs in the U.S. may nothave to wait for the controversial RU-486 to be legalized: A New Yorkgynecologist has shown that two drugs approved for other, unrelated purposes,when combined have the similar abortive effect. Dr. Richard Hausknecht, alongtime crusader for abortion rights, told the New York Times that he's usedthe drugs to perform more than 100 non-surgical abortions already. WhileHausknecht's probably not breaking the law, he has been criticized by somemedical researchers for not safety-testing the method first. BTW: U.S. testingof RU-486 begins this fall.
