A federal judge approved a $4.25 billion settlement for women who had breast implants made by 60 manufacturers. The settlement, the largest in a liability case in U.S. history, was reached in April after nearly two years of negotiations between women's attorneys and U.S. implant manufacturers. About 90,000 women who underwent the implant operation stand to get paid between $105,000 to $1.4 million each depending on their age and health. The implants were alleged to have caused a number of ailments including breast cancer, lupus and scleroderma, a progressive disease affecting skin and organ tissues.
