New psychological tests can determine if elderly people are likely to get Alzheimer's or another form of dementia, a study in the medical journal Neurology says. The tests don't help with treatment, but they appear to be the best predictors yet of whether dementia, the debilitating loss of memory and reasoning abilities, will strike in the near future. For generally healthy people in their 70s and 80s, the tests can warn of the need to plan for care, or they can provide peace of mind.
