Where: Arizona, Colorado [also voting on creating domestic partnerships], Idaho, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Virginia, Wisconsin.

Proponents Say: Same-sex couples are entitled to the same rights and benefits as male-female couples. Marriage is something that two people of the same gender should be able to do and no law should preclude that.

Opponents Say: Marriage should be defined as occurring solely between a man and a woman. People of the same sex have no entitlement when it comes to obtaining a marriage license from their state governments.

Gay Marriage Ban Approved in: Colorado, Idaho, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Virginia, Wisconsin.

Rejected in: Arizona


Domestic Partnerships Rejected in: Colorado.
