Jacques Verges, the celebrity lawyer who once defended Nazi gestapo chief Klaus Barbie, is suddenly eclipsing his current client -- captured terrorist Carlos the Jackal. French media accusations are swirling around Verges, including charges today that he stockpiled rockets used in a 1982 attack on a French nuclear power plant and collaborated with the CIA. Verges, who denies all, countered with his own accusation: that President Francois Mitterrand personally ordered him assassinated in the early 1980s.
