Poll: Trust in the Administration Is Dropping

Almost 2 in 3 Americans (64%) consider their main source of news about the Iraq war to be television (28% from network television, 23% from CNN or MSNBC on cable, and 13% from Fox News on cable), while 10% consider a local newspaper to be their main source for news. Only 5% consider a national newspaper to be their main source of news about the Iraq war.

  • 68% of females consider television to be their main source of news about the Iraq war, while 60% of males consider television to be their main source of news.
  • Whites (66%) and Hispanics (64%) were equally likely to consider television to be their main source of news, while 71% of blacks were more likely to consider television to be their main source of news.
  • Those individuals earning more than $100K annually were the least likely to consider television to be their main source of news (48%), while those earning under $35K annually were the most likely to consider television to be their main source of news (72%).

    This Time/Oprah Winfrey Show poll was conducted by telephone October 3, 2006, among a national random sample of 750 adults, age 18 and older throughout America.

    The margin of error for the entire sample is approximately +/- 4 percentage points. The margin of error is higher for subgroups. Surveys are subject to other error sources as well, including sampling coverage error, recording error, and respondent error.
