The FBI has launched a nationwide investigation of anti-abortion activists who are intent on attacking clinics, according to The New York Times. This represents a significant change for the Feds, who are usually reluctant to get involved in abortion-related violence. The Times cited a confidential FBI memo indicating that the Bureau was looking into whether or not anti-abortion activists are conspiring to commit violence at clinics. If so, they could be busted under the same laws that put mobsters behind bars. In January, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the federal anti-racketeering RICO law can be used against anti-abortion groups. Also today, the Senate voted 98-0 to call for federal authorities to protect abortion clinics.GIRDING FOR BATTLE?
