Israel's top officials renewed accusations that Iran-backed terrorists orchestrated four anti-Jewish bombings in the past 10 days, and U.S. Secretary of State Warren Christopher agreed that the Islamic fundamentalist group Hizballah is the likely culprit. U.S. counterterrorism specialists told TIME Washington correspondent Elaine Shannon the evidence seems to link the bombings in Buenos Aires and Panama last week, and the assault in London this week. What's more, they told her that Hizballah began planning "something fairly spectacular" after the Hebron massacre of Palestinians by American emigrant Baruch Goldstein in March. "They need to be seen as taking revenge on the West," one of the officials told Shannon. "They perceive the United States as having more control over Israel than we have . . . And Clinton is perceived as more pro-Israel than his predecessors."
