What if Microsoft really is the victim of jealous competitors who've whipped the Feds into an anti-Redmond frenzy? If it's politics and not policy that prompted the Justice Department to assail Microsoft this time around, the paper trail may not become public until well into the next century. For now, though, we can look at antitrust history instead, a record dating back the for the past one hundred years that shows the execution of the Sherman Act has been highly partisan and highly protectionist.
