An ailing 86-year-old took the reigns of the Mormon Church, succeeding the long-infirmed president who died last week. Howard Hunter was the obvious heir, despite his various illnesses; he has been the chief of the church's Council of the Twelve, the governing body of Mormonism. Despite being an octogenarian, Hunter will be the first president of the Mormon Church to have been born during the 20th century.
