HUGH SIDEY, author of this week's story about the search for the White House cornerstone, has been writing about the presidency for TIME for more than 40 years. Back in 1961, Jackie Kennedy talked to Sidey about her hopes for establishing a White House historical association. He now finds himself a member of that group and chairman of the committee planning the upcoming 200th-birthday celebration for the White House.
