Elian and His Dad

The bottom line is that young Elian Gonzalez comes from a family in Cuba, a country with a government the U.S. doesn't approve of [NATION, April 17]. But why does that give Americans the right to tell his father that we know what is best for Elian? We are turning Elian's life into a three-ring circus. His relatives in Miami are being treated like heroes when in reality they are being used in the same way they are using Elian.
