The former Harvard lecturer fled to Europe just before the start of his 1981 trial for killing Holly Maddux. He was convicted in absentia in 1993 and arrested last year. But a French court refused to allow his extradition, citing a lack of provisions in Pennsylvania state law--since added--that would grant him a new trial.
