The Supreme Court may have sustained American women's right to choose abortion, but it still seems willing to limit the ways to have one. In a test case involving the French abortion pill RU-486, the Justices by a 7-to-2 vote upheld an appellate-court ruling that bars return of the drug to a pregnant woman. U.S. customs agents had seized the pills from Leona Benten, 29, who had legally acquired them abroad. The court left open the question of the constitutionality of the U.S. ban on RU-486. Benten now plans to have a surgical abortion.
