The U.S. Senate voted 88 to 5 last week to bar states from allowing gambling on professional and amateur sports events. Nevada, Delaware, Oregon, North Dakota and Montana already allow sports gambling. Other cash-strapped states have been itching to get into the lucrative trade. Senator Bill Bradley, a former college and professional basketball star, said, "This will preserve the opportunity for all young people who want to participate in sports to regard the game as theirs, not the gamblers'."
