It was a quiet coda to a gripping political drama. The 14 members of the Senate Judiciary Committee each said yea last week, unanimously recommending that Judge Anthony Kennedy be confirmed to the Supreme Court. After this week's scheduled vote by the full Senate, Kennedy, a moderate conservative, will at last fill the vacancy created when Justice Lewis Powell stepped down from the bench more than seven months ago.
