Letters: Waldheim's Past

The story on the recent court cases against former Nazis ((WORLD, May 18)) mentions Austrian President Kurt Waldheim along with John Demjanjuk, who is | accused of being a sadistic guard at the Treblinka death camp, and Karl Linnas, who was "given the death penalty in absentia." It must be stressed that there is no proof that Waldheim has committed any war crimes. To put him in the company of men who are on trial as war criminals is unjustified and does not help clarify matters in an area where emotions are strong.
