General Gustavo Alvarez Martínez, many Hondurans believe, wields more power than the country's President. Alvarez, 45, met with TIME to voice his views on the Central American crisis. Excerpts:
On the Sandinista threat. Nicaragua has said in an international forum that Honduras is threatening and hurting it. It is Nicaragua that is a base for a war of conquest in the Caribbean Basin.
