The first attack came without warning. A pair of Cuban MiG-21 fighters swooped down on the 103-ft. patrol vessel Flamingo, one of the largest ships in the Bahama defense force fleet, as it was towing two Cuban fishing boats that had been seized for poaching stone crab and conch near the tiny, uninhabited Bahamian island of Santo Domingo Cay. The two jets raked the lightly armed Flamingo with 23-mm cannons, then returned 45 minutes later and sank the vessel with two rocket salvos. As the Bahamian sailors bobbed helplessly in the water, the MiGs roared in low and strafed them....
