John Jenrette, 47, former Democratic Congressman from South Carolina; to two years in prison and a $20,000 fine; for accepting a $50,000 bribe from FBI agents posing as Arab sheiks in the 1978-80 Abscam operation; in Washington, D.C. The sixth of seven U.S. legislators to be sentenced in Abscam, Jenrette asked the judge for leniency with a bit of forced insouciance, saying he had "no desire to further burden the overcrowded prisons."
