Though Earth Day calmed and united most U.S. campuses last week, a few plunged into more trouble than ever. Items:

¶ At Pennsylvania State University, President Eric A. Walker and his wife were driven from their home by rock-throwing demonstrators while small fires forced more than a thousand students out of their dormitories. The trouble followed a rally protesting Penn State's refusal to grant amnesty to 24 students arrested while occupying the school's main building in defiance of an injunction prepared for an even earlier sit-in.
