Kudos: Round 1

Worried about student protest, the University of California at Los Angeles last week took the unusual step of bestowing its honorary degrees (see below) in private, at a dinner guarded by university police. It took lots of pomp out of the circumstance, but such is the climate of academe this troubled spring. Among the men and women who have been honored with doctorates so far:
