In a coronation year, perhaps the most memorable picture taken with a Speed Graphic camera, which most newspaper photographers use, was the radiant shot of Queen Elizabeth waving from her carriage (TIME, Nov. 17). But last week, in Graflex's annual $10,000 contest, Charles Dawson's portrait of Elizabeth, for United Press, came in third ($200).
