For twelve hours, the regents of the University of Nevada pondered the case of Biologist Frank Richardsonthe man who had criticized President Minard Stout for lowering admission standards (TIME, June 15). Was Richardson just a "buttinsky" as Stout had charged? Or did he have the right to express his views on educational philosophy and to criticize administrative policy? Last week the regents made up their minds: Richardson, having "demonstrated insubordination," must go.
The regents insisted that they were not trying to suppress academic freedom. They merely thought that term "can be interpreted too...
