As No. 2 man in the U.S. embassy at Seoul, Counsellor Edwin Lightner Jr. led a State Department clique that disliked and derogated Korea's President Syngman Rhee. Last June, Lightner & Co. vainly tried to prevent Rhee's reelection, accusing the 77-year-old President of autocratic methods. Last week, in line with a policy of support for Rhee, Secretary John Foster Dulles ordered Lightner back home for reassignment.
