Died. Walter Brookins, 64, earliest of U.S. aviation's surviving Early Birds; of a heart ailment; in Los Angeles. A boyhood neighbor of Wilbur and Orville Wright in Dayton. Ohio, he became their first pupil, soloed after 2½ hours' instruction, taught scores of American pilots to fly, including the late General H. H. ("Hap") Arnold.
