AUTOS: Into the Ash Can

A worried WPB revealed last week that in the twelve months ending June 30 some 1,500,000 U.S. cars were driven to the junk heap. This was many more than WPB had expected (although a normal peace year's scrapping was 2,350,000 cars). The new car stock pile is down to 100,000, will be exhausted by Jan. 1.
