Report on Meat

All last week three budget-worried Kansas City housewives—whose husbands earn $125 to $250 a month—tested a week's menus they got from OWI. The plan called for 2½ lb. of meat for each adult, somewhat less for children: lamb roast and pie, pork chops, Swiss steak, bacon, fish.

At week's end the findings had a distraught housewife's directness: 1) "We don't need that much meat"; 2) "It's too expensive"; 3) "The menus don't use leftovers."

Reported Mrs. Charles E. Sayers, whose husband works in an aviation plant: "Maybe we can have guests and use up the extras."
