Language study trend, reported by New York City high schools last week:
study of French, long the most popular foreign language, dropped
sharply this term (from 63,702 to 55,403 students); Spanish, continuing
a recent rise, was up from 37,476 to 40,945, had more beginning
students (13,000) than all other languages combined. Also up: Greek
(from 58 to 61).
